Not too long ago, images like these would have been scandalous.
Today these types of images are everywhere. Most of us don’t even notice them because sexuality is no longer kept private.
There has also been this growing trend of marketing sex and sexuality to children. We can see this in their clothes, their toys, and in television shows. Other ways children are exposed to sexuality is through advertisements and music videos.
In a society where sexuality is so readily available to children and teens, it is hard for them to distinguish what should be private and what should be public. It is essential that we educate ourselves and educate our children about the various platforms of media and how to distinguish the private from the public.
It is also hard for them to see what is real and what is fake. With the growing number of photoshoped images in the media, it is hard for adults to tell which ones are real and which ones are fake, let alone children. A young child seeing a highly photoshoped image (such as the one below) may believe that it is real and that it is how everyone looks like.
